Tibet 06 01 Gyantse Dzong  [5 of 19]

Gyantse (3950m) is Tibet’s third largest city and is one of the least Chinese-influenced towns in Tibet. We arrived at the Gyantse Wutse Hotel 6 1/2 hours after leaving Lhasa.

Pete and I did the stiff 20-minute climb up to the Gyantse Dzong (fort). It was completed in 1397 and was damaged by the British invasion of Tibet in 1904. We enjoyed the anti-British museum, the dungeon, the canons, the chapel and the 'jump off the cliff' (some soldiers decided to kill themselves rather than be captured by the British).
